THERE 'AIN'T NO SIZE TO ANY OF US
I met a man who couldn't see,
he said he'd like to meet me,
and I sing "you don't need your eyes,
and I don't need me."
See those clouds up above?
There's nothing between them and the rivers that we love,
You see there ain't no size to any of us.
Then I faced the demon seed,
He made a claim of wisdom; to have outlived the sea.
but those eyes weren't no different to the eyes that made me.
So I took him by his toes,
and hung him from the place where our memories ago:
Somewhere between the sky and the sea.
Without warning their God came to me
selling books that those idiots read
and I swear he didn't say a single word that made any sense to me.
Low and behold his eyes met mine,
I must have seemed like a gutterfish,
but there must have been some truth behind the sign that I held,
because he walked away with a limp.
So, to the Christ that compels:
"Is there good reason why the images of the populous that they paint
are the same as my pictures of hell?"
Tell me why a man who offers nothing can demand so much time
Shall I just don the jester's hat and a megaphone so I can shout
"I'M DOING FINE"

Bring The Wine
03:29
|
|||
BRING THE WINE
We might be here by the grace of God,
but I'd like to think it through.
Screaming on the way down, everytime
Are these fingers or tangled routes?
Oh, the unsaid
Could've made a little less sound last night
Oh, the unread
Could only form kindle for the fire
Little torn pieces of a diary page
Little torn pieces, something's changed
Oh, how the answers come and go.
Come on back up here, and bring the wine
So we can set down by the river
Counting faces in the clouds as they move by
Could we make them any bigger
Oh, the unsaid
Couldn't make more sense if it tried
I'm about ready to move right now
I know I say this every time.
Oh, how the answers come and go.

The Fog & The Fire
05:25
|
|||
THE FOG & THE FIRE
I was up there looking down,
and for all my saving graces, there wasn't a crystal in the crowd.
Oh you should have heard it coming down
The rain it beat down so heavy on my head
How so desolate the sound
of all these people gathered round
Their test of me was testament, their tribulations aroused
just more sensations that dumbfound
I wonder why you are so willing to turn this car around
So many people pass, but they never turn their hands
to the image of Christ collapsed on the wall above your bed.
I was up there looking down
There were a thousand strangers faces staring at me, screaming loud
about everything I'd found.
In the shadow that I cast she speaks alone and safe and sound.
Those wheels I made don't go round.
Yeah I'd get out of the car if you want to leave this town.
The passengers were never found.
They whisper freezing thoughts upon my neck until I turn around
and then the battleships go down.
I meant to dive in to the see, but I landed underground.
Lost and wasted, on something I must have misread
Like a tailgate symphony of a man, a bottle and the dead
I'm catching a one way flight to the mainland
I'm gonna rejoin the subtle party on the bed next to you.
Then we turned the car around.
Then we turned this thing around.
But he was up there looking down
and he grew heavier on my heels until he tore from me my crown;
that's when I saw the souls, profound.
There was a jester with a knife
and a prince without a pound.
Come in and see what colour your halo is today
Don't let them tar it black based on how they remember you
There's a million miles between who you are and the mainland
With a fistful of tears punch the walls through and through.
No more lying, for the sins beneath your skin
I'm done dying for the way this should have been
I'm gonna stand here and hold out my hands to her
but she can't see my face through the fog and the fire
That's why I turn these things around.

Contessa
05:36
|
|||
CONTESSA
When you walked down those stairs
you had that look on your face again
It said 'I don't want you around,
not with those drunken eyes and dirty words darling.
When she turned around to blow that candle out,
she buried my body in the ground with the rest of them
It's easy for me to say some things should just hurt,
but it gets hard to breathe now I'm alone again.
I get lost in this single box-room, it's like a burial ground.
In a dream the stones that you throw tap my window,
but to this bed I'm bound.
Contessa won't you carry
my washed out body
from this river of sleet and fallen leaves
A complacent moment
I might get wide-eyed and hurry
to the place where you used to wait for me.
I'll keep asking, but you shouldn't turn around
It's not fair to make you look behind these eyes of mine again
I suppose it's turned out upside down
I'll just take my drunken eyes and dirty words and find a place to rent.
I'll get lost in a single box-room like it's a burial ground
and in a dream you'll be reaching out to me, but to solitude I am bound
Contessa won't you carry
my washed out body
from this river of sleet and fallen leaves
Another complacent moment
and I will panic and hurry
to the place where you used to wait for me,
but you're not there.

Both Ends Are Burning
04:13
|
|||
BOTH ENDS ARE BURNING
Someone go and blow that candle out
or else it's gonna set this place on fire.
I tried to tell your new mistress on my way in,
she gently smiled and kissed my hand for each of her lies.
It's gone and hypnotized everybody up in here
and they're about to start eating themselves alive.
I stopped trying to keep the bed made,
that old thing might as well be made out of dust
I'll go and throw it in to the attic
with all the hypnotists, the frauds and the bugs.
And when we hear the witch hunt coming
we will know what life has done to us
It's gone and hypnotized ever body up in here
masquerade your algorithms as love
and get home quick, peel all those layers off
They need longer to dry beneath this winter sun
Watch what you've become.

Swallow These Foes
02:56
|
|||
SWALLOW THESE FOES
Take it slowly, who am I to say that you'll become
everybody trying to be another anybody
I think that I'll be me.
Tell a story, open your eyes outside of you and I
Think for a second that everyone else is dead
Suddenly its not so hard to die
We shall swallow these foes,
we shall swallow them.
